Greg Belson

It was through the discovery of HipHop culture in the mid 80’s that Greg’s penchant for vintage soul recordings started to flourish.

In the early years Greg co-promoted various shows with ATFC (Defected Records) and DJ Vadim (Ninjatune/BBE). He went on to launch legendary club night ‘Deep Funk’ with Keb Darge which embraced niche 60’s beats, Raw/Modern soul, Hammond & 70s Soulful Funk P-Funk Jams.

By 1996 Greg moved into music production with Nick Faber. The Black on Black label released a series of 12’s which gave the ‘Hightower set’ duo opportunities to work with Tony Brown (Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry’s collaborator)DJ Harvey, The Freakniks, Spacer, Meat Katie and Moving Shadow.

Greg was still holding down residencies during the ‘Hightower’ years including Hogwash rated by Snowboy as the ‘best funk club’ in the country at the time.

In 2006, Greg moved to Los Angeles where he became responsible for unearthing previously unheard soulful treasures. His ongoing quest to discover hidden gems has since crowned Greg Belson the king of vintage Gospel Soul. ‘The Divine Chord Gospel Show’ on dublab.com continues to build a devoted global fanbase.

2014 saw Greg embark on a European tour which highlighted his unforgettable headline set at Block 9’s stage Glastonbury. The tour was met with critical acclaim from all corners of the industry and has placed Greg in the spotlight as one of the leaders of rare undiscovered soul.

Greg Belson’s Divine Disco’ on Cultures of Soul released in 2016 received global DJ praise and was named ‘Compilation of the Week’ on Lauren Laverne’s BBC Radio 6 show. To promote the release Belson embarked on a 60 date tour of Europe once again.

More recently Greg returned to production with Paulo Fulci where tracks Divine Situation ’Born Again’ and ‘The Problem Solver’ were supported throughout the underground dance scene.

Two more compilations Divine Disco Vol. 2 and hugely anticipated ‘The Time For Peace Is Now’ on David Byrne’s Luaka Bop label were both released in 2019 with more European tours. Guest slots have included Brilliant Corners, Spiritland, Dingwalls, Ace Hotel, NTS, Horse Meat Disco, Diggin’ Deep Milan, Zero81, Naples, Disco30 Berlin, 45 Live Dublin, Kasheme Switzerland & Glastonbury to name but a few.
